I am a board-certified psychiatrist and former UCSF professor with over 25 years experience in the field.

I have three broad areas of expertise:

• I work with people with medical problems or complicated medication regimens that may impact their psychiatric treatment. For instance, I have considerable experience caring for people who have HIV disease and cancer, people who are often prescribed multiple medications and are sensitive to medication side effects.

• I am expert in the sub-field of psychopharmacology, including the use novel pharmacologic therapies, and the care of people with difficult-to-treat symptoms or disorders.

• I am trained as a psychodynamic psychotherapist and conduct long- and short-term talk therapies.
